The information provided is about Spiddal, a 500-acre property located at the base of Tamborine Mountain. This land was initially settled in 1865 by Michael and Anne Yore (née Ryan), who migrated from Ireland due to the potato famine and the political unrest of the time. Anne arrived in Australia in 1862 aboard the Erin-Go-Bragh (which translates to “Ireland forever”), and Michael followed in 1863 on the Fiery Star.
Upon Michael’s death in 1912, the farm was passed on to their youngest son, Andrew Thomas, who unfortunately passed away at the young age of 33 in 1916. The property was held in trust until Andrew’s son, Thomas Patrick (TP), came of age in 1935. In 1966, TP transferred ownership of the property to the current owner, Thomas John (TJ). Today, Denis, the fifth generation of the family, resides on the property and helps manage the farm.
Since its settlement, the farm has been primarily used for dairy production, pig farming, and the cultivation of hay and grain. After dairy farming ceased in 1970, the property shifted its focus to beef cattle, turf, and hay production. The original inhabitants of the Tamborine area were the Wangerriburra Native tribe.
