Experience rustic, sustainable camping at Sandy Creek, where history meets nature, complete with fire pits, a heated outdoor bath, and pet-friendly facilities.
Sandy Creek Camping is a hosted stay available through Hipcamp. The site has a rich history, with the land first settled in 1866 by Mr. Robert Brown. At that time, the Brown family lived in a timber slab-walled house with an earth floor, which included some flat sandstone rocks in certain areas—possibly where the media room was located. Water was sourced from dry wells dug and lined with timber, remnants of which can still be found on the property today.
Currently, the farm is used for beef cattle and a small amount of dryland hay production. The current caretakers are committed to sustainable farming practices and aim to leave the land in better condition than when they arrived. Visitors are welcome to bring their pets, but they must remain on a leash or be tethered. If you plan to bring a dog, please notify the hosts and ensure you clean up after them to keep the area pleasant for the next campers.
Campfires are allowed only in the designated fire rings, and visitors should check for any local fire ban restrictions before lighting a fire. There is plenty of wood available on the property, but campers should bring their own axe or saw to gather it. The campsite features an undercover area measuring 6×5 metres, a long-drop toilet, fire pits, and a barbecue plate for cooking over the fire. Additionally, there is a raised bathtub that can be heated by a fire underneath, allowing for a long, hot soak. Fresh bulk rainwater is also available as an extra.
