Discover a խաղաղ bushland escape at Purga Nature Reserve, where scenic boardwalks wind through rare Swamp Tea Tree wetlands alive with native wildlife just minutes from Ipswich.

Just 15 minutes from Ipswich Central, Purga Nature Reserve is a მშვიდ and unique natural escape, home to Australia’s largest protected stand of Swamp Tea Tree. Wander along short, self-guided trails through the striking, pale-barked forest while discovering the plant’s traditional medicinal uses and its role as habitat for native wildlife, including witchetty grubs once used as a food source by Traditional Owners.
The reserve features easy, Class 2 walking tracks, including the 350-metre wheelchair-accessible Tea Tree Boardwalk Circuit, elevated above the wetlands to keep feet dry year-round. The Melaleuca Circuit offers a gentle, flat stroll through native herbs, wildflowers and bird-rich habitat, with chances to spot eastern grey kangaroos, koalas and echidnas along the way.
A seasonal frog pond adds to the experience, attracting species such as green tree frogs, eastern sedgefrogs and striped marsh frogs, while the surrounding area is also home to willy wagtails, skinks and, on rare occasions, red-bellied black snakes. With picnic tables and composting toilets available, Purga Nature Reserve is perfect for a relaxed and enriching nature outing.
