Discover a hidden Walloon gem where peaceful country roads and bush tracks offer exceptional birdwatching, from colourful woodland species to waterbirds by a quiet dam.

Tucked away in the rural surrounds of Walloon, around 14 kilometres from Ipswich Central, this little-known birdwatching spot is a haven for keen birders seeking a quiet escape. Head to the corner of Kamp Road and Raysource Road, where those in the know gather to observe a rich variety of native birdlife.
Park near the junction of Raysource Road and Haigslea Cemetery Road, then explore on foot—heading west along Raysource Road as it transitions from a flat, graded surface into a bush track, and south along Kamp Road. Along the way, keep an eye out for Grey-crowned babblers, Speckled warblers, wrens, owlet-nightjars, brush and fantail cuckoos, and fuscous honeyeaters. On the western stretch, a nearby dam often attracts Nankeen night herons and other waterbirds. Visitors are advised to take care around passing traffic, and to respect that surrounding properties are privately owned with no public access or facilities available.
